2019 Venice GT. My brake lights don't illuminate until the brake pedal is almost completely engaged. That means they don't typically light when I stop! I view this as a significant safety issue. Is this usual for the Venice? Thanks.

Thanks for the comment. The Venice (mine at least) doesn't have a brake pedal switch but rather a brake pedal position sensor. Rather than simply on/off, the sensor (arm on a potentiometer I guess) gives the amount of brake pedal movement. Can be calibrated, but only with an appropriate scan tool.

oh, that's interesting. Never seen one of those before. I guess I should stick my head down there and see what's going on

The brake pedal position sensor is near the top of the brake pedal amidst a bunch of other "stuff". Best seen via Google!

checked my after reading this - lights come on with just a slight touch of brake (which on the venice is like a fistful of brake!)

It appears to be the same. I talked to a local Chevy dealer. They were willing to try (no guarantees, 1 hour labor @ $120 per hour). A local shop had a scan tool that looked like it would work, but I was also having ABS issues (apparently a bad wheel rotation sensor that has been replaced) and they couldn't clear the error codes so the recalibration wouldn't take. Might now. All might be related as my cruise control was not working either. Don't have the vehicle back from the shop yet, but the reports are that ABS and cruise problems have been resolved. Waiting to check the brake lights. My 5 months with a Venice has been quite a journey so far!

This is great info.. I also have a delayed break light issue. I will try to take it to my local Chevy dealership next weekend if it’s not raining. I have been trying to figure out a fix for this problem for some time.

Please post the results. I don't see how anything other than the brake pedal position sensor could trigger the brake lights, but will be very interested to know if recalibration of the sensor makes a difference. Thanks!
