What Helmets are you guys wearing
#1

On the highway, the wind is a little crazy, so I want to get a helmet, at least to keep my hair from going everywhere, but I want something that kind of aligns with the style of Vanderhall. I'm thinking either like a retro racing style helmet, or a half helmet. I have a hard time gauging because I come from sport bikes where pretty much a full face is all anybody wears. What are you guys wearing?

I ordered the smallest/lightest DOT helmet from bikerhelmets.com. I received it within 24 hrs.  I have no idea how they did that from Canada to NJ.  They have a great selection.  I have to wear a helmet in NJ.

No helmet for me? I think one of those cool vintage leather aviator caps would be cool. For long distance, lengthy drives on windy days, I use a pair of goggles vs. sunglasses. Makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I've been looking around on Amazon for goggles and aviator cap, but most of them seem to be sold as costumes, and probably are cheap chinese knockoffs. I do like the idea of goggles though. Which ones do you have?

In Illinois you don't need a helmet, so we haven't been wearing one. When I raced go-karts I wore good quality Simpson full face. I've had those a while butI just bought Bell carbon fiber full face for long distance highway riding. I believe if you are going to wear a helmet, it should be one that protects you fully.

I bought these. $23 on Amazon. Can swap out lenses. Work great.

1) why are you guys wearing helmets? Does your state require it?

2) do you find those goggles to be more effective than sunglasses?

1) I'm in IL. No helmet for me!

2) I wear sunglasses 90% of the time, but every now and then, there's a crazy windy day and the googles help - eliminates any wind blowing wind or dirt specs into the eyes. I just keep the googles in the car and grab when I need to.

I'm in WA where helmets aren't required, but I wear one anyway, most of the time. I have several since I also ride a H-D. For the VV I wear a half helmet. It's mainly for the short drop-down sun screen for eye protection. I do wear protective glasses also, but have been hit in the face by all sorts of bugs and who knows what - the windshield isn't very protective. It's also warm on cool rides, and light weight.

Ha - indeed, those windshields aren't that great. And, it would appears by how many that break they're not that well secured Sad
