Ok, located the connector in the left side door panel. The panel is attached with a few sheet metal screws holding the vinyl across top. Then double faced tape is used to hold the panel in place. The speaker actually holds the entire panel firmly. I was replacing my tiny factory speakers with upgraded devices. was able to reach just below where the bump shifter would mount and grab the purple connector. Pulled it back into the windshield cowl and routed it to the steering Colum. I want paddle shifters. Whole diff area I can your help with???? "anyone" So have sheathed connector parked and ready to go. Need to find a mating connection and the resistor system. There are many switches with center neutral in the marine area on amazon. As I said I want paddle shifters, looking at some for gaming racing simulators. Not paying 1k for 12$ worth of materials. ugh.  See pix on speaker hole Enhancements and connection relocated for future updates. 

On the speaker upgrade, you may want to use Rivnuts as there are wiring harnesses back there that you don't want to put a sharp speaker screw into. Rivnuts will make it very secure as it must slightly compress the foam/vinal door covering with the new speakers. diff topic sorry, they go hand in hand. to get to the loose shifter connection via that opening. 
Not sure what the OP meant by "The switch S2 has an internal resistor ladder network. A specific resistance is generated dependent on the position of the switch S2 is part of the component: S3 Transmission Shift Lever"
