After market hood
#1

I saw on facebook (not a member so can't respond) a fiberglass hood for a Venice. I did see a link to an email and I asked if they could make one that opens to check oil. Of course there was no response. What's with vendors who never respond? Blame it on Covid like everything else....LOL

There is probably no worthwhile market for that. Maybe you can cut an access and fasten a hinged scoop, a blister (damned fasteners again) or something over it to hide it in plain sight a bit. Or have a body shop look at it. I’m sure they can come up with something and probably cheaper, too. As for the OE hood setup, I am testing a Dzus-style fitting on one fastener. It works but the female part wants to squirm around as you position the hood to replace it just like the OE u-bolts. I’ll have to position each one individually (hood off, on, off, on, etc) and tack it down with something like a dab of JB Weld or some such. Lots of mindless pain and I don’t know if it would be any easier than my electric wrench with a 4 mm hex in it. I have that down to less than 90 sec. The male Dzuses are short and catch on the edge coming out and aren’t as easy as the screws to manipulate. Right now I have a turn of duct tape over the u bolts to keep them close to inline on the bracket and may just end up there and bag the Dzuses. Point the U down, on top of the bracket, wrap the tape, punch a hole and go from there. Inelegant and unsatisfying but very functional. I can use the elec wrench  easily on the remount without having to fish for the female threads. Easier than the Dzuses. Maybe you check too much? If you’re not burning it and making smoke and you’re not leaving puddles you’re probably okay to check less often and those checks can space out further as you get an idea of the consumption. I think I check mine once or twice between changes. Never have had to add.

Speaking along this line, do these vehicles have a low oil pressure indication? I am assuming the ck eng light is it but I don’t know and the owner’s manual is maddeningly vague. I installed an oil press gauge so it’s not much of an issue for me now. There is a wired sensor but I don’t know if it even works. Anybody?
