CV Shaft Separated
#1
Thumbs Down

I own a 2018 VH Venice since it was new. I bought it from IMOTORSPORTS in Orlando. Currently it shows only about 6,000 miles on it. I pampered this vehicle and always drove it in a non-aggressive manner (I am an older guy). Before each use, I would wash/wax it and coat all rubber boots (CV boots and steering boots) with silicone spray. I never noticed any split or damaged rubber boots, nor were there abnormal mechanical noises indicating any issues at all.
When I made a left hand U-turn on a busy 2-lane high-speed highway, I heard a loud clunk and gear grinding noise coming from the front right. At the same time my VH stopped in the middle of the highway with cars approaching me at a high rate of speed. I was able to quickly get out of the VH and push it off the roadway before getting hit. I found that the passenger side CV shaft had separated at the inner bearings with bearings falling out and the rubber boot being torn up.  I contacted my dealer and requested a repair free of charge since this mechanical issue obviously was not caused by me and most likely should be a safety recall issue. IMOTORSPORTS contacted VANDERHALL MOTOR WORKS. I was told that my warranty had expired and my request for either of the two companies to step up was declined. Instead, I am now facing a $700-$800 bill (including towing) to have my VH repaired.
I am thinking about selling this vehicle after what I have experienced. In the past, many people approached me and asked me questions about my VH. I always gave Vanderhall an excellent review; those times are over. I will peel off the IMOTORSPORTS logo off the windshield of my VH and also, when approached and asked, will tell potential customers about my above described experience while exercising constructive criticism . ???

Well. I called IMOTORSPORTS and was told someone will call back in a few minutes; that was this morning at 0930 AM, 6 hours ago. No one called back. I attempted to call VANDERHALL MOTOR SPORTS/ consumer services; I spoke to an answering machine. Eventually I had enough; I called the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) @ 949 420 9007. and filed a formal safety complaint against VANDERHALL MOTOR SPORTS.

Hi Vanderhall owners . I just got off the phone with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigator Santiago Maldonado. He immediately replied after I had filed the above complaint about the separated CV- Drive shaft. Mr. Maldonado was very courteous and professional. He reiterated that, if you have a SAFETY issue with your VH, you may call him directly at 443 3655 6524. Numbers of complaints about a safety issues count. The more complainants the better is the chance of a recall to eliminate the safety issue. This is about safety, not about a manufacturer's profit.
