Great Job! I'm not really sure what I'm looking at though...So the gear selector is now where the bump shifter normally is? What does the hand control between the seats do exactly?

Thanks. Yes, the gear selector was removed from the floor, cable rerouted to the driver side panel and shift lever fabricated and placed where the bump shifter would normally be installed. The hand control is now located/attached to the floor where the gear selector once was. The hand control is used to accelerate and brake the VH.  You pull the hand control toward the rear to accelerate and push the hand control forward to brake. Purpose of hand control, (crashed on my motorcycle 2009) I am a T7 paraplegic manual wheelchair user and the hand control works as my legs so that I can drive the VH.

Ah, I get it now, that is a fantastic implementation! Looks like both the gear selector and the hand control could be factory. Also awesome that it allows someone without the use of their legs to blast around in a little three wheeled gokart  Big Grin

Thanks, I'll post a few more pictures once all the body panels are installed, also, one more modification to go, soon I'll be working with another metal/fabrication shop to have a rack system built to transport my wheelchair, that way, when someone rides with me I'll be able to carry my wheelchair in/on the rack system and not on the passenger seat.

Hey ddtree,

How you doing on this project?

Love to see the finished product!

I am sending your mod photo to a friend who suffers from MS and has a van and a car modified for hand controls.

He loves my VH and wishes he could take it for a spin. Maybe he will be inspired to follow your lead.

Best Wishes,

That's cool! Good for you! You must have hella upper body strength to lift yourself in the tub. I wonder if you could fabricate a door? I have no idea what the frame is like under the bodywork, so it might be a 'no way'.

Kudos!
That looks great! I think that's a better place for the shifter anyways. Then maybe some one can put the bump shift on the right. Shifting the gears with the right hand would be more natural IMO.
